"We made up 'Vietnamese' as a joke" - Vietnamese woman finally admits

Saigon - In what has been suspected for quite some time by foreigners, a Vietnamese woman (Tran) finally admitted that "Vietnamese" was merely a made up language, all part of a very elaborate joke at foreigners' expense.

"Yes it is indeed true that 'Vietnamese' was made up a few years ago in what started as a trending topic on twitter (#havingfunwithforeigners). We wanted to make up a language which is so absurdly difficult and then watch how foreigners try (but ultimately always fail) to pronounce our totally made up words. My God how funny it was."

"It was beyond hilarious to see how just a minor tonal change in 'Vietnamese', (which again, we just made up as we went along) could mean the difference between 'I want to order a pizza' and 'I have herpes'. God, it would never fail to bring us to tears with laughter when a poor soul was trying to order a beer, and although saying our made up word for beer perfectly, we would pretend not to understand him. Then we will literally be rolling on the floor laughing at his reaction when we correct his pronunciation by saying the word in the exact same way as he did. Christ, this is gold!"

Tran continued to say that in her opinion the 240 billion US dollars it cost to set up the prank which included fake Vietnamese to English translation guides, impossible to read road signage and even opening up language centers and importing teachers to come and teach kids English, despite English being one of Vietnam's 3 actual official languages alongside Zulu and Danish, was worth it.

At press time Tran expressed sadness that the joke has run its course. However, she was relieved that the terrifying driving skills of the Vietnamese (another made up prank making petrified foreigners resemble meerkats on their scooters), is fortunately still in play.
